The TAKATA airbag safety recalls have affected car owners over many different makes and models around the world. The scale of these recalls presents an unprecedented event for the automotive industry.

BMW Group Australia takes all safety recalls very seriously. Your safety in our products continues to be of paramount concern and it remains our objective to have all vehicles subject to any recall rectified as soon as possible.

It is important to us that our customers have access to important information. As part of this recall process, we have carried out multiple mail-outs to affected TAKATA airbag recall customers, using registered owner information from NEVDIS (National Exchange of Vehicle and Driver Information System).

It is important to note that not all BMW vehicles are subject to these recalls. To determine if your vehicle is affected, please submit the last 7 digits of your Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) here.

Your VIN is a unique serial number used to identify your vehicle and is made up of 17 characters. The most common places to find your VIN is in your service and warranty manual or on the engine bay. You may also find the VIN at the bottom left hand corner of your vehicle’s windscreen.

As a matter of priority, BMW Group Australia encourages BMW 3 Series owners to check their vehicle for any outstanding Passenger Side Airbag (ALPHA) recalls. If necessary, owners should make a booking with their authorised BMW dealer immediately for rectification. All recall work is done free of charge for our customers.

The ability to perform the repair throughout the BMW dealer network and the parts supply is subject to worldwide parts availability. BMW Group Australia is working hard to secure the necessary parts as soon as possible. We encourage you to make a booking for the repair work with your preferred authorised BMW dealer at the earliest convenience.

If you have any questions or concerns, please contact your nearest authorised BMW dealer. If you require further assistance, please contact our Customer Interaction Centre on 1800 243 675. The Customer Interaction Centre is open Monday to Friday from 8:30am – 5:30pm (AEST), excluding public holidays.

As this is a worldwide safety recall and affects many countries, we are endeavouring to source parts and complete the campaign as quickly as possible. Within the scope of this safety recall, the preferred authorised BMW Dealer will attempt to carry out this work as soon as possible and will contact owners when parts are made available.
