The lower CO2 emissions that typify BMW iPerformance models are undoubtedly better for the environment when compared to an equivalent conventionally-powered vehicle. And for local journeys using only battery power, there are no emissions at the point of use. If you can use green energy from your energy provider, or a domestic source such as a solar array, then you’re enjoying totally zero emissions motoring.

Up front cost vs savings.
The point at which the savings equal the cost of the plug-in hybrid depends on the cost of fuel. This is a variable that moves both up and down, with a resulting impact on the payback time.
Driving under battery power is conducted in near silence. The extra weight of the batteries and electric motor can make plug-in hybrid vehicles less nimble than their conventionally-engined counterparts. However, BMW iPerformance models bring BMW’s trademark dynamic handling to the plug-in hybrid sector.
Long distance driving.
If you are regularly commuting beyond the battery range of the vehicle, the economic benefits may not be as great as anticipated.
