COMPETITION PACKAGE.

An unadulterated racing feel: The BMW M4 Competition Convertible offers even better performance thanks to an enhanced engine output, a specially tuned Adaptive M suspension, new calibration of the Dynamic Stability Control (DSC), the Active M differential and 20" M light alloy wheels with mixed tyres.

  • Driving dynamics highlights in the M Competition package

    The output of the M TwinPower Turbo 6-cylinder petrol engine has been increased to 331kW. The M sports exhaust system generates a particularly powerful, characteristic engine sound that is destined to thrill. The M lightweight sport seats are equipped with width-adjustable backrests and vertical openings. The front seat belts feature fine M striping. The specially tuned Adaptive M suspension provides optimal road contact, increased traction and agile handling.

  • Exterior highlights

    On the exterior, the BMW M4 Competition Convertible makes a great impression with exclusive, forged and gloss-lathed 20" M light alloy Star-spoke wheels with mixed tyres. The athletic character is emphasised by the BMW Individual high-gloss Shadow Line which runs in high-gloss Black from the front kidney grille over the gills to the model designation, ending at the black chrome-plated tailpipes.

The powerful M engine lays down its thrust in precisely measured doses onto the road, using the manual six-speed M transmission or the seven-speed double-clutch automatic transmission.

  • M 6-speed manual transmission

    With a 12kg reduction in weight and a more compact shape compared to traditional models, the M 6-speed manual transmission in the new BMW M4 Convertible exemplifies intelligent lightweight construction. Inside the transmission, the new carbon fibre friction lining in the baulk rings provides more comfortable gear shifts, and a dry sump lubrication system ensures a more efficient oil supply.

  • 7-speed M double-clutch transmission

    Shift gears without interruption, without using the clutch and without slowing down. The 7-speed M double-clutch transmission with Drivelogic makes this possible. Gears can be changed automatically or manually using the gearshift paddles on the steering wheel or the gear lever. Launch Control guarantees maximum acceleration from a standing start.

  • Launch Control

    Launch Control allows maximum acceleration from a standing start. It adjusts the engine to its ideal starting speed, and the M dual-clutch transmission constantly sets the gearshift points so that when shifting up, the next optimal engine speed is available.

  • M Drive

    M Drive allows for individual configuration of the DSC mode, the appearance of the optional BMW Head-Up Display and personal driver profiles. From comfortable gliding to a sporty and highly responsive set-up, you can adjust the engine, damper, steering characteristics and transmission. Activation is a simple touch of the two M buttons integrated into the multifunction steering wheel.

  • M Servotronic

    M Servotronic adjusts the power steering to suit the current speed so gives a direct and precise steering response, even at high speeds. It also ensures supreme comfort by minimising the physical effort required for steering, as well as maximising agility when parking, manoeuvring or navigating twisted roads.

  • M dynamic mode

    M Dynamic Mode, a function of Dynamic Stability Control (DSC), allows a certain degree of wheel slip, thus noticeably improving driving dynamics. While the DSC works against understeer and oversteer, the M Dynamic Mode enables the full exploitation of the car's maximum longitudinal and lateral driving potential.

GRIPPING BRAKES.

A crucial part of the highly dynamic driving experience in the BMW M4 Convertible: the braking system. With their precision and efficiency, M compound brakes and the optional M Carbon ceramic brakes are top achievers in terms of dynamics and performance.

  • M compound brake

    As a result of the use of different materials, the M Compound brake achieves not only outstanding deceleration values, but also high stability and a long service life, as well as a reduction in weight that has a positive effect on agility, dynamics and acceleration. The brake callipers in Blue metallic with M lettering mark the M specific high-performance brake system. Due to the specific design, temporary noises can occur occasionally after a long, low or extremely high load, which disappear again after a short time. In order to avoid functional noise, it is appropriate to load the brake at regular intervals with some stronger braking. With moisture on the brake discs, the brake system can be braked dry to avoid noise. The functional noises have no influence on the performance, operational safety and stability of the brake.

  • M Carbon ceramic brake

    With the optional M Carbon ceramic brake, the use of braking power is even more direct, it is corrosion-free, even more heat-resistant, greatly reduced in wear and contributes to weight savings, which has a positive effect on agility, dynamics and acceleration. The special technical equipment is visible through calipers in the colour gold matt with M lettering on the outside. Due to specific material properties, increased operating noise may occur during braking, e.g. in case of prolonged, low load or in wet conditions shortly before vehicle standstill. The design-related noise can be avoided by braking the brake dry in case of wetness or loading the brake more heavily after a long, low braking load. The influence of wetness and road salt cause brake effectiveness to correspond to that of a conventional brake system. This reduced braking power can be compensated for with a greater pressure on the pedal. The functional noises have no influence on the performance, operational safety and stability of the brake.
