  • BMW Twin Power Turbo petrol engines

    The latest generation BMW TwinPower Turbo petrol engines feature remarkably agile power delivery and excellent responsiveness, even at low engine speeds. At the same time they are more efficient, with fewer emissions and better performance than their predecessors. These innovative engines combine the latest fuel injection technology and fully variable valve control including Double-VANOS with state-of-the-art turbocharger technology and represents a milestone in the BMW EfficientDynamics development strategy. The result is a particularly efficient drive train, which emphasises the renowned BMW engine prowess. The BMW TwinPower Turbo inline 6-cylinder petrol engine has been honoured multiple times with the Engine of the Year Award, bolstering its worldwide reputation for dynamic power delivery, extremely smooth running characteristics and impressive efficiency. The engines from the BMW EfficientDynamics range feature a technology concept that has been proven highly successful and is implemented in nearly all petrol engines.

  • BMW TwinPower Turbo diesel engines

    The new generation of BMW TwinPower Turbo diesel engines is a testament to the rigorous application of the BMW EfficientDynamics philosophy, combining top marks in power generation and performance with low fuel consumption. The diesel engines are notable for their excellent responsiveness and agile power delivery at all engine speeds, as well as for their low fuel consumption. They are renowned for their outstanding efficiency and dynamics, producing very few emissions and friction in order to guarantee maximum driving pleasure. The new diesel engines in the BMW EfficientDynamics range feature lightweight aluminium construction and one, two or three turbochargers with variable turbine geometry. They also come with the very latest CommonRail direct injection, which guarantees optimum combustion to further reduce fuel consumption and CO2 emissions.

  • 8-speed Steptronic transmission

    The 8-speed Steptronic transmission sets new standards in comfort and dynamic performance and is a key element of BMW EfficientDynamics. The unusually fine increments between gears facilitate optimum power delivery at all speeds. This reduces fuel consumption significantly, while allowing the driver to enjoy increased sportiness and dynamic performance. The engine speed is reduced, particularly at high speeds, which in turn reduces both fuel consumption and engine noise.
    The converter clutch also helps – even if the car is in manual mode. The fast engine speed transitions and precise transmission tuning guarantee incredibly smooth gear shifts. Integrated functions such as predictive drivetrain, driver recognition and the constant monitoring of the vehicle's movements and the traffic situation considerably affect the way the transmission shifts gears. Regardless of the current driving mode, the system always selects the most suitable gear – even in manual mode. In Sport mode, more responsive engine settings and a series of integrated functions that use data from the navigation system further boost the driving dynamics. The Comfort mode has more comfort-oriented transmission settings and ensures fewer gear shifts.


The ECO PRO mode helps drivers reduce their fuel consumption by up to 20 percent, depending on their driving style – according to an internal BMW fuel consumption study. The coasting function, make it possible to save a further five percent.
The coasting function (only available in conjunction with 8-speed Steptronic transmission) decouples the drive train from the engine and the vehicle rolls (or "coasts") without any propulsion when the driver takes the foot from the gas at speeds of between 50 and 160 km/h, does not apply the brakes.

  • Handling

    The BMW 2 Series Convertible glides majestically across the asphalt – whatever the weather. Thanks to BMW rear-wheel drive technology, Driving Experience Control and variable sport steering as well as 50:50 axle load distribution that is unique in its class, it impresses with exceptional agility, top-class manoeuvrability and ultra-precise handling.

  • Adaptive M suspension

    The ideal suspension for even more dynamic handling – the electronically controlled dampers in the Adaptive M suspension adapt to suit the driving style and road conditions. The driver can modify the damper characteristics using the Driving Experience Control. The suspension has also been lowered by 10 mm, which increases agility even further. A noticeably firmer damper setting is activated when the Sport mode is selected via the Driving Experience Control. In Sport+ mode, the Dynamic Stability Control (DSC) is replaced by the Dynamic Traction Control (DTC), which allows for even more dynamic driving by permitting more flexibility before the DSC intervenes.

  • Launch Control

    Launch Control is a function included in the 8-speed Steptronic Sport transmission which enables maximum acceleration from a standing start. To avail of this function, activate DTC (Dynamic Traction Control) by briefly pushing the DSC button (Dynamic Stability Control), move the gear lever to the "S" position, firmly hold down the brake and press the accelerator pedal to kickdown. Release the brake while maintaining kickdown, and the vehicle will accelerate to the maximum until the accelerator is released. This is a feature which is destined to delight drivers with dynamic, sporty ambitions.
