ACCESS THE WORLD'S LARGEST ELECTRIC VEHICLE (EV) CHARGING NETWORK.

As a ChargeNow member, you get all the benefits of joining the ChargePoint network, so you can easily charge your BMW i vehicle the next time you're out and about.

Here's how it works:

1. Create a ChargeNow account and activate your cards. Sign up to create your ChargeNow account and activate the ChargeNow cards included with your BMW i vehicle. Once your account is created and your cards are activated, you can access stations on the go whenever you’d like. You can also order new cards or manage your cards - simply log in, go to My Account and Manage ChargeNow Cards.

2. Link a credit card to your ChargeNow account. If you need to access a paid station, we make it easy to sync your credit card when you create your ChargeNow account. Then, the first time you charge your car at a station that requires payment, a $25 deposit will be charged to your credit card. Whenever a fee is required for charging, it will be deducted from your ChargeNow deposit balance. When your deposit balance runs low, it will automatically be replenished by charging your credit card the equivalent amount of three month's average use or $25, whichever is greater.

3. Find a participating public charging station.

- Download the BMW i Remote app to find available public charging stations, check their availability, and send their locations directly to your BMW i.

-Use the onboard BMW i navigation via the BMW ConnectedDrive services, to find public stations from your BMW i vehicle.

- You can also locate member stations using the ChargeNow online map, which displays which stations are in use, available or allow reservations.

- Or, log in to the ChargePoint app with your ChargeNow account login information, to access your account via a mobile device.

4. Plug in and charge. To charge your BMW i vehicle at a participating public charging station, just tap your ChargeNow card over the reader symbol, press the handle button to remove the charging connector, and plug in. After you've finished charging, tap your card to end the session, then unplug the connector and return it to the station. Alternatively, you can start a session with the ChargePoint app or by calling the customer support line on the station.

5. Track your charging activity. Once you log in to your Dashboard, visit My Stats to see how much gas and greenhouse emissions you've avoided, and track your energy use. Or, go to My Account and Monthly Statement to review any paid station fees as well as deposits to your account balance.

    • Link a credit card to pay for fee-based charging sessions.
    • Track all your charging by viewing your up to date account activity online, via your Dashboard.
    • Review your energy use, petrol savings, and greenhouse gas emissions avoided.
  • How are greenhouse gas (GhG) savings computed?

We use a 'Well-to-Wheel' aproach which includes emmisions associated with generation and transmission of electricity, combined with Australian Government vehicle and energy estimates in a formula that derives the greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions you've prevented, based on how much you've used your EV (that is, based on your car's energy consumption). Here are the estimates we use in our calculation:

    • An average internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicle emits 219g of CO2 per kilometre.
    • The Australian passenger car average fuel efficiency for ICE vehicles is 11.1 litres/100km.
    • An electric vehicle has an average efficiency of 6 km/kWh. [Note: This is our estimate based on data for several types of electric vehicles.]
    • The Australian average emissions from the generation and transmission of electricity is 0.89 kg of CO2 per kWh of electricity generated.
    • In our calculations we have not taken into account the positive impact of green power offsets which would eliminate the emissions associated with electricity generation and transmission (0.89 kg of CO2 per kWh).
    • CO2 is 95% of GHG emissions.
    • Combining these numbers, we get 0.45 kg/kWh of CO2 GHG Savings.
  • I currently have a ChargePoint account. Can I change it to a ChargeNow account?

Yes. Please contact Customer Support at 1300 300 885 or chargenow@chargepoint.com.au to have your ChargePoint account converted to a ChargeNow one.

    • When your car is no longer charging due to an interruption.

Stations on the ChargePoint network can be easily accessed with any of the following options:

    •  Tap your ChargeNow (or ChargePoint) card over the reader symbol.
    • Use your ChargePoint app.
    • Call the customer service number on every ChargePoint station.
  • How do I pay for access to a charging station with my ChargeNow card?

When you sign up for a ChargeNow account, you must add a credit card so that you're ready to charge at a station that requires a fee. Your credit card will not be charged until the first time you access a paid station. Upon first use of a paid station, the credit card synced with your account will be charged a $25 deposit which will be applied as a balance on your ChargeNow account. Each time you pay to use a station, the station fees will be deducted from your ChargeNow account balance. When your account runs low, we will automatically charge your credit card $25 or the amount equivalent to three month's average use so your ChargeNow account always maintains a balance. To update your credit card information, log in, then go to the Financial Information section under My Account.

  • How much will I pay to charge my car?

Charging stations on the ChargePoint network are owned and managed by the property owner. Pricing varies as each owner sets the price for use of their stations. You can see the price to use a specific station on the ChargePoint app by viewing the indicated rates on the station details page, or click a charge spot on the ChargeNow map and view pricing in the station details pop up. The price also scrolls across the charging station's display.

  • Can I request a charging station to be installed near me?

Absolutely! Many of ChargePoint's charging station locations are the result of driver feedback. If you can't plug in and charge at a place you park often, Contact Us and let us know.

  • What do the colors mean on the dashboard map of charging stations?

Many stations have more than one connector. If a connector is available, the station is shown as green. If the station is fully occupied, it is shown as blue. If the station status is temporarily unavailable, it is shown as gray. If the station is not on our network and we don't have access to its status, it is shown as orange.

  • What is a port?

A port represents the number of charging connectors located on each charging station. The number of ports determines the number of vehicles that can charge simultaneously at a charging station. Check the station details page to view the port’s available power. You can also check to see which ports are configured for power sharing, when two electric vehicles are plugged in at one station, the station will share the available power between the ports. This will result in longer charging time.

  • What are the different port types: Level 1, Level 2
    • Level 1 A Level 1 port is a grounded receptacle (standard household outlet) that you plug into, using your own cable, usually supplied with your vehicle.
    • Level 2 The most common type of port on non-residential stations is referred to as Level 2 ports and follows SAE J1772.

When you click on a charging station on your dashboard map, information about each port is listed in the pop-up window. The information lists, in this order: Level, connector, power, and whether the port is currently in use or available. So a Level 2 port may be listed as: Level 2, J1772, 30A: Available.
